Another show-stopping Stratocaster built by one of the finest masterbuilders at the Fender Custom Shop, Dale Wilson.
This guitar has my favourite Strat wood combination of an Alder Body and a Maple neck. This combination in my book, is the versatile setup you can get with a Strat, it has more balls than a typical 50’s Ash/Maple Strat and more chime than a 60’s Alder/RW combo. Which means with the right pickups, you can play anything from Hank Marvin, right through to even the heaviest dirtiest SRV licks.
The pickups in this ’56 Strat match the wood combination perfectly, they’re a set of Handwound Josefina 50’s Strat pickups, which just sound superb. Chimey top end, chewey mids and fat low end.
As always with any of Dale’s Masterbuilt Strats, you have effortless playability and perfect intonation all over the neck. The Large C profile neck measures .875″ at the 1st fret, right up to .950″ at the 12th. This combined with a 9.5″ radius fretboard and Sanko 6105 medium Jumbo frets means you have the perfect blend of a nice full shape but with lightening fast playability, which equals a fat tone with total ease of use. Plus you have a contoured neck heel, which means easy axesss up the dusty end.
Dale really ages his guitars just perfectly, they’re never over the top and they actually really look like original instruments from the late 50’s/early 60’s.Â
