The original HT-5 amp from Blackstar is one of the best-selling valve amps in the company’s history. Its successor was not created lightly, and it arrives after two years with some wonderful new features, completely lifting the bar for tiny amplifiers everywhere.
Overview:
The Blackstar HT-5R MkII comes with two different channels, each with two footswitchable voices for maximum versatility. You can choose between American and British-inspired voices on the clean channel. The British-inspired sound is extremely sensitive, with a true chime and a loose bottom end. When you push this voice hard, you’ll get some stunningly sharp mid-range overdrive.
As a 5-watt amp, it’s ideal for playing at home or in the studio, but there’s a power reduction option if you need to dial it back. Push this in to reduce the power to 10% and enjoy full tube tone at a lower volume.
The USB audio and XLR D.I. outputs provide excellent recording versatility, while the freshly voiced studio quality reverb gives a professional touch to your music.
The amp’s appearance has also been updated, with a streamlined, boutique design with a degree angle, top-loader screen, and stage-friendly chickenhead control knobs.
Other notable features include Blackstar’s proprietary ISF tone control, which allows you to create your sound and provides another dimension to the regular EQ section.
There’s also a line out/headphone jack with simulated output if you don’t want to use the built-in 12″ speaker.
Furthermore, an mp3/line in allows you to play your favourite music through the amp or play along with backing tracks, as well as an effects loop to customise your sound.
